ZPLNT was founded by Jonathan Zwinkels in 2023 in order to provide services to the Commercial Horticulture sector, specifically the “Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA)” and “Total Controlled Environment Agriculture (TCEA)” sectors. It has become clear to ZPLNT that there is a significant shortage of knowledge especially as the industry is looking to grow and develop with large scale projects and associated Capital requirements. Many times there are large scale Investors keen to look at the industry, but there is a lack of crucial practical knowledge with which to execute the optimal project and reduce the risks for the funding partner.
It is in this area that ZPLNT is focused on supporting growth for its customers that is focused on practical experience and productivity suitable to the chosen market, providing reassurance and objective reporting to Growers, Owners and Investors in order to realise the success of projects across the world.
Having been involved and immersed in the industry for his entire life, Jonathan has a wide range of experiences across the Sector, both at a practical crop production level, as well as a Business development and leadership setting.

Having been involved and immersed in the industry for his entire life, Jonathan has a wide range of experiences across the Sector, both at a practical crop production level, as well as a Business development and leadership setting.
Jonathan has spent his career since based on the South Coast of the UK producing crops ranging from Protected Ornamental plants such as Poinsettia, Hydrangea, and Lavender to Herb crops including Basil, and various types of Lettuce crops. Much of his time was spent developing Hydroponics cropping systems, Agronomy, crop scheduling and operational budgeting, whilst operating Glasshouse Lettuce and Herb production facilities across the South Coast of England, supplying major UK retailers such as Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.
Growing crops commercially in a sustainable and successful way is not just about the strength of the agronomic conditions of the plants, but also ensuring the business strategy, organisation, and development is working. ZPLNT has the experience of building and developing growing systems, working with broader professionals to develop new CEA facilities, engaging with Funding partners to bring projects to life.

Focusing on the basics and details, and drawing on all of the learnings and experiences, and contacts, ZPLNT looks to provide a complete approach to supporting its clients growth.
Utilising a broad and varied network of contacts, ZPLNT is able to keep up to date of the latest technologies and innovations within the industry, and combining this with an inquisitive approach, allows us to make operational improvements to deliver increased yield and quality whilst keeping an eye on product development and innovation. Having useful insights on technological developments in the wider sector, embracing digital systems to supplement the science of growing.
A key lesson that has been utilised is that there needs to be a focus on the product, process and operational personnel, in order to achieve success. Supporting operational staff through a variety of means, whether in agronomic, climate management, new product development, or innovations in growing approach are all within the capabilities of ZPLNT.
